A HOST of comedians have been lined up for The Great Big SA Indian Comedy Show. The stand-up comedy show features popular South African comedians for a one-night-only event at The Globe at Suncoast on December 9.

The line-up includes Sans Moonsamy, Matthew Govender, Logie Naidoo, Bash with Tash, Mariam Bassa, Koobeshen Naidoo and Henry Ramkissoon.

It is presented by Moonsamy’s SandMan Productions and Enzine Events

Moonsamy’s previous shows were Those Indian Guys and Curry on Laughing. He has also featured in TV commercials.

Moonsamy said they first launched this comedy brand at Suncoast in 2016 to bring some the biggest Indian comics together.

“It has been an absolute hit since and we have sold out everywhere we go. Covid came and we paused and now we are unpausing with a big bang and a fantastic big line-up. We wanted to spoil Durban as well.”

Moonsamy said from previous line-ups they had not featured Bash with Tash, Logie Naidoo, Matthew Govender or Mariam Bassa.

“We wanted new faces but all of these new names are legends or growing into it. Each of them are loved household names and are super funny. We wanted a mixture of faces and comedic styles and each of them fitted the puzzle perfectly.”

A highlight is Bassa, who featured as Aya in the Keeping up with the Kandasamys film franchise.

“Mariam Bassa is a special human being and she is so funny. Let’s just say this will be one of her first stand-up performances. I have a cool vision of how I see her unique comedy, and boy, do we have something special planned for audiences. They certainly won’t want to miss out on her alone.”

Koobeshen Naidoo and Ramkissoon, of the Dingalings, are popular for their individual stand-up sets and joint sketch comedy sets.

Moonsamy said: “These two together are a crazy, funny combo. They will bring all their loveable and wacky antics from the Dingalings, some sketch comedy and maybe some stand-up too. We want to keep the audience surprised so I won’t say exactly what. They were also a part of all the original shows since 2016 so it’s great to still have them in the line-up.”

The programme also entails sketch comedy, music and dance.

“If you have seen some of my comedies before, it always includes wacky music that gets the audience involved, including parodies, musical interactive sketches.

“Some of the other artists like Logie also includes music in his gags. So there is something for everybody’s taste. There is a little surprise musical act between myself and Mariam. Overall with the music and dance, the show becomes a comedy party.”
