Cobra is a Tamil action thriller written and directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu.
The film, his second directed Kollywood movie, is produced by SS Lalit Kumar under the banner Seven Screen Studio.
Madhi (Vikram), a maths professor, becomes a prime suspect when Interpol officer Aslan (Irfan Pathan) relentlessly pursues Madhi and a criminal named Cobra who cause mayhem across the globe.
The movie, filmed in various locations, is a racy thriller that brings out the brilliance of Vikram as one of India’s greatest action heroes.
Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan debuts in Kollywood in his first ever movie. He does not disappoint his myriad of fans as his acting capability is as good as his prowess as a cricketer.
Kannada actress Srinidhi Shetty debuts in her first Kollywood movie and lights up the screen with her beautiful presence.
Kollywood director, KS Ravikumar, who last directed a movie in 2019, has an important role in Cobra as a journalist who is in cahoots with the assassin.
Vijay TV comedic artiste turned Kollywood comedian, Robo Shankar, offers some light-hearted moments. It is great to see Vijay TV Junior runner-up contestant Poovaiyar get an opportunity in acting with super star Vikram, after debuting with mega star Vijay in Master and Bigil.
Music maestro A R Rahman belts out an amazing background score with my favourite song, Adheera, featured in the opening credits of the movie. I was a tad bit disappointed as I imagined this song being featured in a club scene.
From being an assistant cinematographer in his two previous movies, Harish Kannan debuts in Cobra as a fully- fledged cinematographer who captures the international sequences quite breathtakingly. His wizardry with the camera also comes to the fore in showcasing the tastefully choreographed stunts by Dhilip Subarayan.
Thanks to chief prosthetic make-up artiste Baldev Varma, Vikram is transformed into eight different characters, one such character is that of Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman. See if you can identify Vikram in these characters.
After all is being said and done, Cobra is a lengthy movie which showcases the best of what Kollywood can offer.
Cobra is showing two shows daily at Cinecentre Suncoast, Durban.
