A TRIBUTE show to musical icons Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri and KK will be held at the Suncoast’s Globe theatre in Durban on November 5.

The show is presented by Panache International and Drisha Music Academy and will feature Maithili Shome and Kushal Paul.

Farzana Mayet, the chief executive of Panache International, said she was born in Lenasia surrounded by the music of these icons.

“Growing up I was particularly fond of watching Indian movies and listening to the songs, especially all the songs of nightingale Lata Mangeshkar. These became my ultimate favourites.

"I decided to put together the concept of paying tribute to these legends as all of them passed away last year. The gap that these icons left in the world of music is irreplaceable.

“I think their versatility and uniqueness is what set them apart and allowed their music, and more-so their style of singing to be loved and appreciated by different age groups and eras. What better way to make their music live than through a tribute concert paying homage to their songs.”

Shome is the daughter of singer Monali Shome.

“Through the classical training and expert guidance of her dear mother, Maithili is now a seasoned professional with many accolades. She has been featured on international platforms such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Swarn Swarna Bharat. She has the voice of an angel and will definitely do justice in rendering out Lataji's greatest hits.

"Maithili has done playback singing for two A-list South African films, Deep End and Kandasamys - The Wedding, as well as the latest Bollywood movie CHUP.”

Kushal Paul

Kushal Paul is a two times Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner on Zee TV and Zee TV Bengali, and is mentored by music composer, Pritam Chakraborty. He will render the music of the Bappi Lahiri and KK.

“Kushal is versatile in his style of singing. Bappi Da and KK were also versatile and this was the perfect synergy in ensuring a hallmark production. The singers will be accompanied by musicians from India,” said Mayet.

The show will stage at 7pm. Tickets are available through Computicket.
