Pawandeep Rajan, Indian Idols Season 12 winner, knew from a young age that he would be a musician one day.

The 26-year-old, who will perform in South Africa next month, was born and raised in Champawat, a town in Uttarakhand, India.

Rajan said his dad was his earliest influence.

“My father is a musician, so I grew up listening to music. I started playing the tabla at the age of five and I began singing right after.”

Rajan, now a full-time musician based in Mumbai, said Indian Idols Season 12 (2020) was a game-changer for his career.

“It has opened up many opportunities. I toured the world in the first year, more than I could ever dream of. I have recorded with Salim Sir (Salim Sulaiman) for his project Bhoomi. I have sung and composed so many songs for different music directors, which would not be possible without Indian Idols.”

Rajan will be part of the Superstar Singer 2 concert on December 3 at The Globe at Suncoast. The show has been described by its producers as one that will celebrate music and India’s young singing prodigies from Sony TV’s kids singing reality show Superstar Singer 2.

The winner of that show, Mohammad Faiz, with finalists Sayisha Gupta and Rituraj, will also be featured.

“I love the South African audience. They are responsive and know all the songs. This time I am coming with the Superstar Singer artists and Sayli, so it will be a different set with a lot more surprises,” said Rajan.

Originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, 15-year-old Faiz won Superstar Singer Season 2. He gained the attention of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, who described him as the future voice of romance, according to reports.

Gupta, from Punjab, became the second runner-up at the age of eight.

Originally from Kerala, 10-year-old Rituraj was a judge’s and audience favourite because of his singing and quirks. Rituraj is also a member of the first children’s band in Kerala, The Windchimes.
