Cape Town - A man linked to a cash-in-transit robbery in De Doorns is expected to make an appearance in court today.
After nearly six months, the Hawks traced the 26-year-old man and arrested him.
He is expected to make an appearance at the De Doorns Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of ammunition and unlicensed firearms
The State is set to prove that on January 3 in De Doorns, Fidelity guards collected cash at Unika Power Trade in Glenco Street.
While the crew members were leaving the premises, the suspect and an accomplice allegedly approached them with a 9mm pistol.
The suspect then grabbed the bag and firearm of the crew members and fled the scene with the undisclosed amount of money.
Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said the man is facing charges of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of ammunition and unlicensed firearms.
“This follows his recent arrest by members of the Hawks’ National Priority Violent Crime (NPVC) team in Bellville.
“The suspect was traced, identified and is currently incarcerated in prison on unrelated charges.”
In another arrest, Hawks detained a 38-year-old waiter in Knysna who is believed to have duplicated bank cards belonging to customers.
The man is expected to make an appearance at the Knysna Magistrates’ Court today on charges of fraud and theft.
Hani added: “The waiter has been arrested for duplicating patrons’ bank cards at a local restaurant in Knysna.
“The alleged fraud was reported to the Hawks by Absa Bank Forensic Investigation Unit after suspicious transactions were noticed at the restaurant
“The suspect was apprehended whilst appearing in the Humansdorp Court on an unrelated charge.”
