Cape Town - Several women have been murdered since the start of Women’s Month just over a week ago.

A Hanover Park mom was allegedly killed by her husband. Residents were upset over the fact that he was not arrested straight away. However, he was eventually apprehended and made a court appearance on Thursday.

Duncan James Hoorn was arrested on Monday two days after Chantel Pasqualle was buried. The mom was assaulted and stabbed on June 28 and died exactly a month later on 28 July. She had been in a coma but never recovered.

A community activist who asked not to be named said on the day of the assault, the police were alerted to the incident.

The activist claimed: “They went to the house and they didn’t even go inside for a wellness check. They could hear the woman screaming for help inside but they did nothing.”

State attorney advocate Reneé Uys said Hoorn was charged with premeditated murder under schedule 6 and bail was opposed.

On Sunday, August 4, Elizabeth Botha, 73, died in a shooting incident involving two unidentified suspects.

Her relatives were in another room when the shooting took place.

Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said no one had been arrested.

Two days later a Kraaifontein woman was murdered in Wallacedene.

Captain FC van Wyk said detectives were investigating a murder following a shooting on Tuesday.

“A woman, 28, was shot and injured. According to reports, the victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to injuries. The motive is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, another woman was killed with a hammer during a suspected robbery incident.

Her body was disposed under a bridge covered with a blanket and rubbish.
