The bodies of two babies have been found in Wallacedene within less than a week.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg reported that police are investigating circumstances surrounding both incidents of two babies who were found deceased in two separate incidents on Monday and Wednesday.
Twigg says: “Kraaifontein police registered an inquest for investigation after a newborn baby girl was found by a passer-by in Wallacedene on Monday. The baby was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.”
Meanwhile, police have registered a concealment of birth case for investigation after a body of a new born baby girl was found in a sewerage drain in Vosho informal settlement in Maroela Road on Wednesday at about 09:27.
Twigg added: “Police members attended the crime scene where the baby was pointed out in the drain. The baby was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.”
No arrests have been made.
Founder of Faith and Hope Missing Persons organisation Veranique “Benji” Williams said it is sad to know that people are capable of killing a newborn baby and that these people walk amongst us.
She said: “As mothers, this affects us emotionally and mentally as we feel for these kids.
“How do mothers do this? If you don't want children, there is family planning and you can give your child up for adoption.
“I think it is time that our Constitution needs to be changed and our justice system needs to be more strict. Mother's need to be held accountable for their kids, as well as fathers.”
