The Durban Film Office is stepping up its game in championing local film productions, signalling significant growth potential for the city's vibrant creative economy.

Recently, eThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba, accompanied by Councillor Thembo Ntuli and Councillor Phili Ndlovu, the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Economic Development Committee respectively, took the opportunity to visit a film set in the city, highlighting the municipality's unwavering commitment to nurturing Durban’s burgeoning film industry.

During the visit, Mayor Xaba expressed strong support for local filmmakers, emphasising the importance of fostering new creative ventures for both the local and international film communities.

The Durban Film Office has already supported successful productions like The Khumalo's and A Wesley South Africa Christmas, which have not only gained traction locally but have also placed a spotlight on Durban's capacity as a film production hub.

The city's leadership is actively encouraging filmmakers to seize the opportunities available through collaboration with the Durban Film Office.

“We want to position Durban as a premier destination for film,” Xaba said: “This is all about creating sustainable job opportunities for our people and showcasing the rich stories and diverse landscapes of our region.”

Through strategic partnerships, the Durban Film Office aims to attract more local and international filmmakers, propelling the creative economy forward.

The office's support includes resources, guidance on local regulations, and assistance in securing permits for filming, thereby streamlining the production process.

As the city continues to invest in the film industry, local filmmakers and aspiring talent are urged to take part in this exciting journey.

By fostering a collaborative environment, Durban aims to not only enhance its reputation as a filming destination but also stimulate economic growth and job creation.
