Famous faces rushed to heap praise on the 81-year-old democrat Joe Biden moments after he announced with a letter posted on X that he was stepping down from the 2024 White House race for President.

The race was against his 78-year-old rival Donald Trump, who is riding high on a wave of MAGA support after surviving an assassination attempt on July 13.

Former US president Barack Obama, 62, said on X: “Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we’ve also been reminded – again – that he’s a patriot of the highest order.”

“Star Trek” actor George Takei, 87, also weighed in on the news Joe was quitting his bid for another four years as US president, saying on X: “I want to honour our President @JoeBiden. Trump shared his thoughts on his Truth Social platform, saying: “Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!”
