The Lekompo scene is facing another scare after 25-year-old musician KayCherlow NNL and his team were involved in a car accident in the early hours of Sunday.
This took place in Mathibela, Zebedia, in Limpopo. The group was on their way to a gig at Ga-Stan when the crash happened at around 3am.
KayCherlow, real name Lehlogonolo Khwinana, is one of the young voices pushing the Lekompo genre forward with hits like “Dia Mpaba” and “Magwala a Cheche”. All three people in the car survived and were taken to the hospital for monitoring.
His family released a statement confirming that only minor injuries were recorded. They also thanked supporters for the messages they have received since the news broke and asked that the public give him the time and space he needs to heal.
“In the early hours of Sunday, around 3am, 07 December 2025, our beloved Kaycherlow and his team were involved in a motor vehicle accident on their way to their last gig at ‘Ga-Stan’. All three passengers sustained minor injuries and are receiving medical attention.
“We kindly request the public and media to respect Kaycherlow's privacy and give him time to fully recover," the statement read.
The family added that event organisers who need updates on his bookings should contact them directly. They also expressed gratitude to the artists, DJs, close friends and team members who have been supporting them during this time.
This crash comes while fans are still processing another serious incident involving fellow Lekompo artist Kharisma, who has been in the hospital since her accident in Polokwane at the end of October.
The accident tragically claimed the life of one passenger. Kharisma, who sustained serious injuries in the incident, has been receiving ongoing medical treatment.
Her family said she is receiving care and asked for privacy as she continues her recovery.
These back-to-back accidents have left many fans worried about the growing risks artists face while travelling to shows, especially during the busy festive period.
X user @YourBoy_TK said: “As an artist, if your driver is your friend, who is also your manager, who also helps you drink your riders? I have news for you.”
Another fan, @poutie_Ms4ch, commented: “No man.... something is off with what is happening with these Limps artists, in particular, the Lekompo artists.”
“Shebeshxt arrested, Kharishma had an accident and cancelled all her December gigs. Now NLL got an accident,” @JoeweeCarter90 said.
For now, the hope across the Lekompo community is that both KayCherlow and Kharisma recover fully and return to the music scene when they are ready.
