“The cake is big enough for everyone to eat,” said media personality, television producer and popular YFM radio host Tulani “Tulz” Madala, explaining the philosophy behind his first Amapiano single, “iMali Ikhona”.

The track, whose title translates to “There is money or opportunity”, marks Madala’s official entry into the music industry and reflects his desire to create space for emerging talent.

“The decision to drop this project comes from a genuine love for Amapiano and a belief that our scene is brimming with incredible untapped talent,” Madala explained.

“For too long, the industry has felt like a closed shop. I wanted to use my platform to prove that collaboration, not competition, is the future. ‘iMali Ikhona’ is our way of saying: the opportunity is there, let’s build together.”

The single features a mix of artists, including Springle, DJ Kafi, Olley RSA, Makhives101, C’biya and Fierce, each bringing their distinct style and energy.

“We didn’t just want to make noise; we wanted to create a genuine, infectious Amapiano hit,” Madala said.

“The energy on the track is electric, and that comes directly from the passion of the young artists involved. They brought their best, and I’m confident that listeners will feel that excitement and commitment to making great music. This isn’t a side hustle; this is a serious venture into creating timeless sound.”

Madala emphasised that timing and relationships played a crucial role in this project.

“Everything has its time and its season. I built genuine relationships with the right people at the right time, key producers and artists. What truly inspired me was understanding how they viewed my abilities and the unique role I could play in their projects.”

Despite his established success in radio and television, Madala said that he is approaching music with humility.

“I prefer to enter any new situation with humility, adopting a beginner’s mindset. I believe that the illusion of knowing everything limits true understanding."

"Even though I’ve been able to gain success in radio and television as well as on social media, I’m approaching this entirely to learn and absorb as much knowledge as possible, recognising that music is a whole new ball game.”

The release of “iMali Ikhona" also reflects Madala’s understanding of the festive season in South Africa.

“With ‘iMali Ikhona’, we all know that it’s about soaking up that December feeling we have here in South Africa. The plan is to enjoy the festive season to the fullest, and as everyone knows, the itinerary is flexible - if the budget allows, we move! The goal is just to be happy and celebrate the holidays.”

For Madala, this project is about more than music; it’s about opportunity, community and giving back.

“I wanted to show that success doesn’t have to be a solo journey. There is room for everyone who wants to work hard and be part of something bigger. ‘iMali Ikhona’ is just the beginning. It’s a statement that together, we can elevate South African music and create lasting impact.”
