“Aweh (Remix)” with Cassper Nyovest has gone double platinum, securing a triple RiSA certification.

The Kimberley-born rising star first delivered “Aweh” back in March 2025, a smooth, nostalgic song that easily found its way onto everyone’s playlists.

The song, inspired by that first-date feeling, carried a warm '90s influence and set the tone for her album “You, Me & The 90s”.

In an interview with IOL, lordkez said that the song was meant to give the feeling of a first date.

She explained that “Aweh” means “hello” or “what’s up” and that the sound was made to instantly take listeners back in time.

“'Aweh' is like the first date. The sounds and basslines within the first 30 seconds take you back. ‘Aweh’ also means ‘hello’ or ‘what’s up’."

“I wanted to capture that exciting moment when two people meet for the first time, especially in that 90s setting, being picked up from your mum’s house, dressed up cutely, with Michael Jackson playing in the background,” she said.

The momentum only grew from there. After Nyovest heard the song during a Twitch livestream and showed love to it, the remix came together organically.

Speaking to Hype Magazine, lordkez shared how it all happened.

“Cassper reached out to me when he heard the song and said he was keen to do the remix. Naturally, I was excited about the idea, and from that point onwards, it was very organic in the way the record came together.”

She also opened up about what the rapper and hitmaker brought to the song.

“He brought another perspective to the storyline of the song as well as a new approach to the music… I love the fact that Cassper approached the song with care and tact; he killed it.”

The result is a remix that kept the heart of the original but took it to greater heights.

Now the numbers are doing the talking. The original “Aweh” has officially been certified gold by RiSA (Recording Industry of South Africa), while the remix has gone double platinum.

On top of that, “You, Me & The 90s” has also reached platinum status, giving the artist three major wins at once. Reacting to the moment, she took to X with a post showing off the certifications. “It’s official,” she wrote.

She also made sure to thank Nyovest for his role in the remix, which helped take the song to a new level.

Speaking on reworking the song, she previously shared that she’s never done a remix before, and hearing his verse was fun.

According to the organisation’s website, RiSA is a non-profit trade association representing the collective interests of major and independent record labels and producers in South Africa.

It is also responsible for running the annual South African Music Awards (Samas), publishing the Official South African Charts, and acknowledging sales certification for albums and singles.
