“I have given our efficient, dedicated and energetic RTI team a mandate to arrest reckless drivers and those who are driving under the influence of alcohol. The new recruits will have no mercy. We are injecting energy. We are injecting discipline. We are inspiring hope for a better future,” said Duma.

Leading up to this there were five incidents that happened in Pietermaritzburg including the tragic accident involving scholar transport. In his keynote speech MEC assured that their deaths will not be in vain, highlighting that throughout October there will be a series of awareness about road safety management, with the emphasis for the new recruits that no one is bigger than the law.

“You must arrest everyone irrespective of their profile in society. You must not be intimidated by anyone. Arrest professionals, lawyers, police, engineers and councillors or any other professional,” he said.

In the closing of his keynote speech, he applauded the RTI College for training and developing the new traffic officers and was in no doubt that KZN will be known as a capital skilled, professional and efficient traffic officers.
