If you have been looking for an easy way to give back this festive season, Cavendish Square has made it simpler than ever.
On Saturday, the popular Cape Town mall handed over an entire store to Gift of the Givers, transforming it into a dedicated donation centre for the Cape’s southern suburbs.
At a time when unemployment, poverty and hunger continue to affect millions of South Africans, the initiative offers shoppers a practical way to support an organisation that has become synonymous with hope and relief across the country.
The new donation centre was officially opened by Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, founder and chairman of Gift of the Givers, in an atmosphere filled with warmth and community spirit.
Located at the mall’s former Click and Collect site on P1, the space has been converted into a convenient drop-off point where visitors can donate 5L bottled water to assist with the current water crisis along the Garden Route, as well as non-perishable food items throughout the festive season and beyond.

There is also a “Back a Buddy” QR code on site, encouraging ongoing monthly support of R50. It is a simple way for people to continue supporting the organisation’s work long after the holidays are over.
This new base gives Gift of the Givers a much-needed collection and distribution point in the Western Cape.
While the immediate focus is on water and food donations, the projects will adapt as needs change.
From January, the centre will shift its attention to collecting school supplies, and in future it will serve as a key collection point during emergencies such as floods or fires.
For shoppers already visiting Cavendish Square, the initiative creates a natural opportunity to give back while running errands or doing festive shopping.
More importantly, it lays the groundwork for a long-term partnership that can respond to community needs throughout the year.
“We were truly excited to welcome Gift of the Givers into Cavendish Square,” said Faizah Behardien, Centre Manager at Cavendish Square.
“Providing a dedicated drop-off point means our shoppers can support their vital work with ease, and we are proud that this space will help the organisation take its incredible relief efforts even further.”
Sometimes, making a difference really can be as simple as picking up an extra bottle of water or adding a few food items to your trolley. At Cavendish Square, those small acts of kindness now have a place to call home.
