If you are looking for something a little different to do in Cape Town this December, this one hits the sweet spot between food, art and atmosphere.

Celebrity MasterChef South Africa winner Seth Shezi has taken over the kitchen at the Sun on Your Plate Café, bringing his signature creativity to a limited-time experience that blends photography with flavour.

Running until December 21 at Youngblood Gallery on Bree Street, the café forms part of the “Emotions of the Sun” exhibition, a global photography showcase created in collaboration with Magnum Photos.

After stops in Milan and New York, the exhibition has landed in Cape Town with a distinctly local twist thanks to Shezi.

The exhibition features 40 photographs by eight celebrated Magnum photographers, all exploring the Sun as a feeling rather than an object.

Think warmth, joy and optimism translated through light and colour.

Shezi picks up on that same emotional energy and carries it straight onto the plate.

At the Sun on Your Plate Café, he uses seasonal ingredients, bright colours and playful textures to echo what is happening on the gallery walls.

“Veuve Clicquot’s world is built on imagination and boldness,” says Shezi.

“Designing this menu meant capturing that emotional temperature – warm, golden and surprising. Familiar enough to comfort, layered enough to intrigue.”

The result is a menu that feels celebratory without being overcomplicated.

Signature dishes include truffle skinny fries with saffron aioli, goat’s cheese on yellow beetroot crisps with wild honey, and salmon sashimi on a turmeric blini.

“Each dish captures sunlight on a plate,” Shezi adds. “Bright, celebratory, and unmistakably joyful – just like the exhibition itself.”

For Shezi, this collaboration is about storytelling through food, much like photography tells stories through images.

His approach brings an extra layer to the exhibition, turning a gallery visit into a full sensory experience and making it an easy addition to your December social calendar.

The experience is designed as a relaxed brunch-style stop, perfect for a weekend wander or a midweek treat in the city.

The Sun on Your Plate Café and “Emotions of the Sun” exhibition are open daily from 10 am to 6 pm at Youngblood Gallery, 70 Bree Street, Cape Town.

If you are looking for a fresh what to do in Cape Town that combines art, food and a little sunshine, Seth Shezi’s latest culinary moment is well worth a visit before it closes on December 21.
