Reigning Miss SA, Qhawekazi Mazaleni shared a heart-warming video of the affirmations that she had at the beginning of the year, and on the list of them was being this year’s Miss SA titleholder.

The beauty queen revealed in a video that she is preparing to move to her apartment that is being offered by the organisation, and while packing some of her basics, she stumbled across the notes, which she had put on her mirror.

“I have also just seen the affirmations that I put up before I even knew I was in the competition. And right here at the top of the list…” she said as she pointed to the affirmation that was written, “I am Miss South Africa 2025.”

Her list of affirmations also included: “I am a child of God”, “I have financial freedom”, “I am worthy of my dreams”, “I am an incredible speech therapist” and more.

Mazaleni is not the only one who does affirmations or shares that they have a list of affirmations.

In fact, we all do have our affirmations or what people usually call them, manifestations.

But why do people do it? Well, people usually do it to motivate themselves or manifest their long-term goals.

According to an article by “Positive Psychology”, positive affirmations require regular practice if you want to make lasting, long-term changes to the ways that you think and feel.

Yes, there are benefits to having positive affirmations. Here are some:

  1. Self-affirmations have been shown to decrease health-deteriorating stress.
  2. Self-affirmations have been used effectively in interventions that led people to change their physical behaviour.
  3. They may help us to perceive otherwise “threatening” messages with less resistance, including interventions.
  4. They can make us less likely to dismiss harmful health messages, responding instead with the intention to change for the better and to eat more fruit and vegetables.
  5. Self-affirmation has been demonstrated to lower stress and rumination.

If you are thinking about creating your own affirmations list, it is important to note that you must write everything in the present tense.

According to an article on the “Beautiful Summer Mornings” website, it helps you speak to the version of yourself you’re already growing into.

You affirm your direction by declaring it as your current identity.
