Durban - A motorist was found in the boot of his vehicle in uMlazi by a private security company, police and a car tracking company a few hours after he was hijacked at a shopping centre in Montclair on Thursday evening.
Security company, Mobi Claw 911 said their control room received an activation from a client notifying their incident manager that her nephew had been hijacked at a shopping centre in Montclair in Durban.
“She reported that the hijackers had taken him with the car and released the other vehicle occupant. Our incident manager immediately broadcast the incident to all possible resources on our network across Durban including the SAPS, Metro Police and vehicle recovery agents.”
Mobi Claw 911 added that the vehicle was equipped with a car tracking system and was tracked to uMlazi.
“The car tracking company’s helicopter started a search. The vehicle was recovered at around 8:15pm in uMlazi. Initially it seemed that the victim was missing but he was found moments later tied up in the boot of the car, fortunately with no serious injuries. SAPS took the victim and vehicle to the police station for processing.”
Mobi Claw hailed the outstanding work by those involved in the recovery of the victim and the vehicle.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said a case of car-jacking was being investigated by Montclair SAPS.
“It is alleged by the complainant that on August 4 at 6:15pm, he was stationary on Ronald Road when he was approached by five armed males. At gunpoint he was forced into the boot of his vehicle and the suspects fled the scene with his vehicle.”
Gwala added that the vehicle was located in uMlazi H-section.
“The victim was found unharmed.”
