Like most manufacturers that have cottoned onto the fact that South Africans like nothing more than a unique sticker pack, especially if it involves black, GWM have joined the fray with the introduction of the Haval H7 Black Edition.
It’s a cosmetic change that introduces a number of darkened exterior elements aimed at differentiating it from the standard model.
Up front, the grille adopts a blacked-out finish, replacing the brighter trim seen on other variants, complemented by revised alloy wheels, also finished in black, as well as black roof rails.
Further changes include black mirror caps, darkened window surrounds and black exterior badging.
Inside, the H7 Black Edition carries over the same cabin layout and features as the standard range. It comes with leather-trimmed seats, front heating and ventilation, a heated multifunction steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof.
A cooled storage compartment is integrated into the centre armrest, adding a practical element for longer journeys.
The dashboard is dominated by a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display that projects key driving information.
Connectivity includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 50W wireless charging pad. An eight-speaker DTS audio system is fitted as standard across the range.

The Black Edition retains the existing two powertrain options offered in the H7 range.
The petrol model is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 170kW and 380Nm of torque with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (4x4) configurations, paired with a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid system combines a petrol engine with electric assistance to deliver a total system output of 179kW and 530Nm. It’s only configured as a front-wheel drive model and uses a dedicated hybrid transmission.
All-wheel drive models incorporate a system that continuously monitors traction levels and adjusts torque distribution between the front and rear axles, supported by a range of selectable driving modes including Sport, Eco, Snow, Mud, Sand, Grass and uneven terrain settings.
The H7 Black Edition is equipped with a range of standard safety and driver assistance systems, including electronic stability programme (ESP), brake assist, traction control, roll movement intervention and lane departure warning.
Additional systems, such as forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, use radar and camera-based technology to monitor traffic conditions ahead and provide intervention when required.
It comes with a seven-year/200 000km warranty, a seven-year/75 000km service plan and seven years of roadside assistance.
Hybrid derivatives include an additional eight-year/150 000km warranty covering the battery.
