Songstress Nomfundo Ngcobo, professionally known as Nomfundo Moh, sings in isiZulu and fuses Afropop instrumental with strong elements of trap soul.
Johannesburg - Singer and songwriter Nomfundo Ngcobo may be young but she certainly knows what it means to carry burdens.
“Just because we are young it doesn’t mean we don’t go through things. I wanted to get rid of that notion that young people don’t have problems. Each and every one of us has issues they need to deal with. We all have burdens,” said the petite songstress who has just released her latest single uMthwalo.
The song reflects on feeling burdened by cumbersome responsibilities and reaching out for support.
Singing in Zulu, the songstress fuses Afropop instrumental with strong elements of trap soul. uMthwalo, meaning burden, deals with melancholy as a subject while encouraging people to find hope and motivation.
“I wanted to come up with a song like this, especially since a lot of people are dealing with issues alone. People are suffering from depression. I wanted to encourage people and give them hope. I want people, young people, to know that they can talk to someone and confide in them. If they don’t want to talk to others they can listen to the song religiously, kneel down and pray to God to help them.”
Known professionally as Nomfundo Moh, the young star said the reception to the song had been positive.
“I actually started writing and recording the song in August last year, but there were delays as I was pushing my first single Lilizela. I wanted to see how it does before releasing another song. People have been anticipating this song, it is long overdue but my fans did not tire. The response they are giving me shows they are happy with the final product. The 20-yearold is celebrating Youth Month by making sure she continues her social work studies.
“It is getting tough academically. I have to engage on my socials and do more interviews for my single. I am working on my upcoming album titled Amagama. I hope to release it before the end of this year.”
Umthwalo is now available on all streaming platforms.
