Johannesburg - CANNABIS extractor Mduduzi Lepele is hopeful that his cannabis oils for medicinal benefits will someday be approved by the Department of Health for the use of medical healing.
Lepele is a young entrepreneur from Seobokeng in the Vaal, who discovered the medicinal benefits of cannabis and the lucrativeness of the business. Through his company, Elengos Supply, which he launched a few years ago, he sells medicinal cannabis oils which can be used for anxiety, depression, acne, insomnia and to illuminate cancer cells.
“We often forget that natural products have as much power as the chemical created products. In fact, natural products tend to be less harmful and are more affordable. I believe the cannabis industry can contribute to the country’s economy and create the much-needed employment we need,” he said.
Lepele sells his cannabis oils at various outlets. He said according to the law, you can grow and smoke cannabis in the privacy of your own home, but he encouraged people to use it for medicinal reasons because of the great benefits.
“I made it my mission to provide a product for my African brothers and sisters, something they can afford. The cannabis oils do not make you high but instead stabilise the pain and calm you down.”
The 32-year-old said his goal was to have his cannabis oils prescribed to patients at clinics and hospitals and in the long run, to see a partnership with the Gauteng Department of Health.
Earlier this year, Gauteng Premier David Makhura announced that his government was looking into the cannabis industry as one of the many ways to revitalise the economy.
He said the government was also focusing on high growth priority sectors and infrastructure investment projects, energy, tourism, automotive and aerospace.
Meanwhile, cannabis enthusiasts are guaranteed a cannabis experience at the Cannabis Expo taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from Friday.
