Tribute pour in for Masebe
Tributes continue to pour in after the death of Thabo Masebe who was a member of Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) and ANC member.
Masebe died on Monday 18 April, he was the Acting Director General in the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG).
The ANC Caucus in the GPL expressed sadness by the passing of Masebe, they described him as an exceptional communicator, a dedicated servant of the people of Gauteng and a humble, large hearted philanthropist whose presence left a positive mark on those he served and worked with.
ANC GPL Caucus spokesperson Lesego Makhubela said the devastating news of Masebe's passing has dealt a cruel blow to his family, friends, the ANC led GPG and the nation.
Makhubela said Masebe joins a special breed of exceptional communicators such as comrade Parks Mankahlana and Ronnie Mamoepa.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the Masebe family, especially his immediate family, relatives and the GPG. Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult period,” said Makhubela.
He further said “Comrade Masebe was an unassuming and humble person who was a true and loyal servant of the people. He distinguished himself as a disciplined and committed cadre. He was soft spoken, eloquent, persuasive and had perfected the art of communication”.
Makhubela also said Masebe carried assignments given to him, during various deployments, by his organisation the ANC with dedication and unquestionable commitment.
“His work ethic and discipline gave practical meaning to meritocracy. Masebe was part of a legion of brave, death defying generation of fearless Young Lions who challenged the apartheid regime head on in both the townships and universities.
His contribution was not only in practical execution of the struggle of our people as he was also an astute communicator and a consummate strategist with more than 20 years experience in public service,” he said.
The ANC in Gauteng said it dips its revolutionary banner as it mourns Masebe’s passing.
“The movement sends its sincere condolences to his family members, friends, comrades and colleagues in this time of mourning,” said ANC national spokesperson Pule Mabe.
Mabe described Masebe as a diligent, hard working and consistent servant and leader of the people, never shy to speak his mind and to challenge any actions which undermined the cause of freedom and development of the people.
“Throughout his life, Masebe was committed to learning and self-development, building expertise and deep knowledge in whichever sphere he found himself,” Mabe said.
Later this afternoon, Gauteng Premier, David Makhura will visit the family of Masebe.
Makhura will be accompanied by the MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko and Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Ntombi Mekgwe.
The Masebe family expressed appreciation for the kind messages of condolences and support on the passing of Thabo Maemo Masebe.
“The family would like to announce that all those who would like to pay their respects, are welcome to come to the family home.There will be prayers from Wednesday to Friday 20- 22 April 2022 at the family home from 6-7pm,” said a Masebe family statement.
The address for the Masebe family home is 9 Barlinka Street, 69 Broadhurst Estate in Kempton Park.
The family have said that due to limited parking space in the Estate, they request that visitors to park in a dedicated area outside the Estate, with the memorial being on Thursday 21 April 2022.
However the time and venue have yet to be confirmed.
