SA Music Awards end off with big wins and stellar performances

The second and last night of the prestigious SA Music Awards (Sama) kicked off with show-stopping and electrifying performances from local artists who gave music fans all the entertainment needed to make the night memorable.

Night one of the awards was streamed live on the Sama TikTok page and YouTube Channel on Saturday, with Robot Boii and Mpho Popps as hosts.

Popular and much-followed TikTok sensation Alphi Sipho Mkhwanazi held the ropes on the red carpet and behind-the-scenes proceedings for the TikTok stream on both nights.

Strutting their stuff at this glorious music affair on the second night as hosts were popular actor and media personality Lawrence Maleka alongside renowned music talent Nandi Madida, who both looked sizzling in their outfits.

Many artists walked away with great accolades, expressing gratitude for the recognition.

Explosive performances varied from sensational voices to high-energy acts from the likes of Musa Keys, Zakes Bantwini, DJ Tira, Nomfundo Moh, Stogie T, A-Reece, Dumi Mkokstad, Msaki, Makhadzi, Takie Ndou, Ntando, Mellow & Sleazy and many more.

Among the much-loved and popular winners was the “Osama” hitmaker Zakes Bantwini, who bagged the award for best collaboration and highest airplay composers.

Bantwini led with seven nominations, while Abalele’s DJ Maphorisa followed with several nominations.

In the public voted categories, Haksul Muziq stunned viewers when he was announced as SAMPRA Artist of the Year, beating formidable competition in that category.

Musa Keys, Chymamusique, Msaki, Haksul Muziq, Mkhadzi, Young Stunna, Black Coffee, Blxckie, Reece Madlisa and Zuma, Khanyisile Mthethwa, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Ami Faku, Pulane Maphari 9umba, Mdoovar and Toss received recognition.

Deep house maestro Chymamusique emerged victorious on the second night of the #SAMA28.

The special lifetime achiever award was received by the legendary Jimmy Dludlu, Joe Nina and McCoy Mrubata.
