One of the biggest nail-biting moments in the South African Music Awards ceremony is the announcement of artist of the year award.

The excitement over who bags this coveted title never gets old, and over the years has left many crushed by a wave of disappointment.

When Haksul Muziq was announced as the South African Music Performance Rights Association (Sampra) artist of the year, fans on social media could not help but ask who he was and caused stir around his win.

Haksul Muziq faced off with popular artists such as Young Stunna, Emtee, A-Reece, Musa Keys, Rodger KB, Makhadzi and Msaki, among others.

His win left many disappointed.

Comments flooded in, with some claiming that there were artists who were more deserving of the award.

Taking to Twitter, Zygomaticus asked: “I haven't participated in voting for nearly half a decade, so I am in no position (to) judge the winner. My question goes out to the people who voted for this gent. Uban lo mjita? I have never heard of a single track from him and judging by the comment section, I am not the only one.”

SkinnyJiggyNigga added: “So this gent beat A- Reece to the artist of the year award. You guys are making it so hard (to) convince us that awards are not rigged.”
