This past weekend, South Africa hosted one the biggest pageants globally and welcomed beauty queens from across the world to face off for the title of Miss Heritage Global 2022.
The prestigious affair took place on September 24 in Limpopo, in celebration of Heritage Day.
Miss Haiti, Abigail Pierre-Louis, was crowned Miss Heritage Global 2022, alongside Miss Zimbabwe, Eva Mzondiwa, and Miss South Africa, Zabelo Hlabisa from KwaZulu-Natal, who was second runner-up.
The event kicked off with 35 contestants from various countries presenting their cultures.
What better way to celebrate heritage day than to anticipate beauties from across the world competing for the title of who wears their country’s heritage better?
The 10th event was hosted by African actress, musician, socialite and TV host Khanyi Mbau and comedian, show host and TV personality Mpho Popps at the Kalahari Waterfront, a luxurious wedding venue owned by Mbofholowo Mbodi, who is the CEO of the Miss Heritage Global.
Scores of people graced the event, filling the arena, among them representatives from the Limpopo provincial government and ambassadors of various countries. The day was sponsored by the Limpopo provincial government and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, and the Thulamela Local Municipality, among others.
Wumba Kapo, of Akapo Jewels, who recently opened a shop in DaVinci Hotel in Sandton and made the crown, said it was is was made from pure sterling silver set with 217 blue, white and pink cubic zirconia.
“The inspiration was created by African hands, is drawn from the abundance of natural resources and cultures that are found in South Africa,” Kapo said
Nhlanhla Shabangu, the pageant chairperson, backed by the founder Ronald Tisauke, said: “Next year promises to be even a better event as we are learning and striving to make this a memorable event that people will always look forward to in the future.”
Before the start of the pageant, Shabangu told ‘The Star’: “It's a great opportunity, and one of the biggest milestones to be able to host this event, especially on the basis that South Africa has been found fit to host such an event of this magnitude in terms of the infrastructure that we have. Our tourist submissions mainly that speak to our heritage.”
