The City of Joburg is expected to observe the swearing in of its new mayoral committee members today (Monday) after the announcement of the new team at the weekend.
The leaders chosen by the newly installed ANC mayor Dada Morero will comprise members of different political parties, such as the EFF, the Patriotic Front, Al-Jama-ah, African Independent Congress (AIC), PAC. Congress of the People, GOOD Party and United Democratic Movement (UDM).
Morero said most of the parties included in the coalition with the ANC had similarities in terms of people-focused service delivery policies.
He said the ANC had a good history of working together with other political parties. He plans to show residents of Joburg a stable government for the next five years.
“As we take on this task we must put the people of Johannesburg at the centre of development and service delivery. The core of our growth and development strategy is grounded by people, service delivery and developmental outcomes. These three informed the collective view of who should constitute the mayoral committee.” Morero said.
He said that he would like to assure the residents that the new coalition was not a power-sharing exercise but the coming together of different skill and abilities for the greater good of the city.
“Collectively as different parties we are united we by the love we have for Johannesburg and its people,” Morero said.
The new MMCs include Loyiso Masuku, responsible for group corporate and shared services. transport went to MMC Ashley Sauls, development planning to Thapelo Amad, housing Anthea Leitch, economic developement Nomoya Mnisi, health and social development Eunice Mgcina, community development Lubabalo Magermtshu, enviroment infrastructure services Mpho Sesidinyane. public safety Jack Sekwaiala and finance Margeret Arnolds.
Morero said the establishment of a mayoral committee for the City of Joburg was in line with all legal prescripts.
Morero said immediately after the swearing-in ceremony of the committee there would be an engagement with the people of Eldorado Park. Eldos has experienced huge service delivery challenges under the DA-led coalition and the new ANC-led administration planned on showing leadership in the area.
