Meadowridge library will host a talk with Cat Therapy author Gail Gilbride on Thursday October 24, at 10am. Gilbride’s debut novel, Under the African Sun (2016), was set in 1970s Apartheid South Africa. The protagonist, Deborah Morley, is an intern on a Cape Town newspaper. She’s told to shadow the political reporter. Listening to the prime minister’s shocking speech and seeing the reporting of it, she begins to have doubts about her choice in career as a news journalist. What she really wants is a fairytale wedding and a picket-fence future in the suburbs. But her country is being torn apart by unrest. Picture: supplied
