Future engineer Mosaka Tirisano overcomes mathematics hurdles

In an era where academic challenges often deter young minds, 18-year-old Mosaka Tirisano from Forte Secondary School has emerged as a beacon of resilience, transforming struggles into a resounding success story. Faced with substantial difficulties in mathematics early in 2025, Tirisano chose to confront his obstacles head-on, a decision that paved the way for remarkable personal and academic development.

Mosaka Tirisano, an 18-year-old student at Forte Secondary School, has become a shining example of perseverance in a time when scholastic difficulties sometimes discourage bright minds. Early in 2025, Tirisano faced significant challenges in mathematics, Tirisano chose to confront his obstacles head-on, a decision that paved the way for remarkable personal and academic development.“I have had some challenges with my mathematics but had to persevere as I finally improved my marks achieving 5 distinctions throughout the year’”.

Tirisano might have easily given up at first since he was troubled by doubts about his aptitude for mathematics. Instead, he dedicated countless hours to mastering the subject, a commitment that ultimately culminated in an awe-inspiring recovery.His academic career took a significant turn when he earned six distinctions in a variety of subjects through unwavering perseverance and diligence.Tirisano said of his difficult but fruitful year, "I overcame obstacles and experienced new things, which ultimately helped me learn and excel."

The eighteen-year-old expanded his concentration beyond maths after realising that progress required constant work. He started devoting time and effort to his other subjects in an effort to improve his overall performance. His steadfast commitment was quickly acknowledged when he was chosen to participate in academic camps and represent his school in a variety of educational initiatives.“I just needed to invest more time in my studies,” he noted, showcasing a mature grasp of the relationship between effort and success.

However, Tirisano's goals go beyond the recognition he has already received. He is well aware of the urgent need for qualified engineers in South Africa and hopes to study mechanical engineering at Stellenbosch University. His dedication to advancing the development of the country is admirable. He enthusiastically stated, "There is a limited number of engineers in South Africa, and I want to be part of changing that," demonstrating a sense of purpose that transcends individual aspirations.
