Arrive Alive has urged motorists navigating the streets of southern Johannesburg to steer clear of the N12 westbound before the Diepkloof interchange, following a concerning shooting incident on the afternoon of 14 January involving police and suspected criminals.
Reports say that all lanes of the N12 have been closed as a result, leading to significant traffic disruptions in the area.
Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), confirmed the occurrence of the shooting and emphasised the immediate need for drivers to find alternative routes.
“There is a shooting incident on the N12 west before the Diepkloof interchange involving police and criminals,” he stated. “All lanes on the N12 are currently blocked off to traffic due to the crime scene.”
''Motorists are advised to exercise caution and avoid the N12 west travelling towards Uncle Charlie’s and the Diepkloof interchange and rather use alternative routes such as Xavier Street off the N12.”
Motorists can use the exit at Xavier Street to navigate around the closure, advised Arrive Alive. Utilise M1 North or South as a bypass where possible. Consider using the Golden Highway as an alternative link.
