Tragedy in Limpopo: Investigation into farmer's alleged murder of local man intensifies

A man who was hunting with two companions was shot dead, allegedly by a farmer.

Authorities in Limpopo are on the hunt for suspects following the shocking killing of a 51-year-old man, Joseph Machipi, who was gunned down on a farm outside Giyani.

This tragic incident has raised serious concerns about safety in rural areas and the nature of wildlife hunting practices in the region.

According to the SABC, the violent incident reportedly took place on Monday, 19 January 2026, when Machipi was out hunting with two companions.

Eyewitnesses have yet to come forward, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation by local police. According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the body of Machipi was recovered later, on Friday, 23 January 2026.

Details surrounding the circumstances of Machipi's death remain unclear.

Ledwaba said they are still looking for the suspects.

“On Friday, 23rd January 2026, members of the community were searching again when they found the victim had already passed away. His body was already decomposed. The suspects are unknown at this stage, but investigations are ongoing to apprehend all those involved.”
