Labelled as the Unbreakable AI Smartphone, the HONOR X9d launch emphasised durability as a fundamental priority for users.

“That's why we have the best drop resistance, we have the best water resistance, we have the best dust resistance. To make sure we have the durability for the phone,” said Fred Zhou, CEO of HONOR, at the launch at Levelthree in Kramerville, Sandton.

The launch was a lively showcase of the next evolution in the Unbreakable Series, blending style with real-world toughness. Guests tested the device through interactive games and witnessed its resilience firsthand.

Zhou highlighted both the AI capabilities and the durability of the device. He shared that previous model like the X9C sold 13 million units globally, with South Africa leading the market by more than 50% at its price point. The X7D, launched last year during the promotional season, saw a post-paid increase of over 50% compared to its predecessor.

“AI is very important, especially for the X series. For customers buying the X9d, many may never have used AI features before, which makes it a key selling point. But durability is even more important, it determines whether the phone lasts one, two, three, or four years,” Zhou said.

The HONOR X9d 5G is visually striking, feels modern and confident in the hand, yet is built for the realities of daily life. At the launch, HONOR demonstrated its Unbreakable Challenges, Kahoot, Wrecking Ball, Sandpit, Paint Ball, Fish Tank, Ice Challenge, and even a washing machine test, all designed to show real-life toughness over technical jargon.

The device carries SGS Triple-Resistant Premium Performance Certification, with 2.5m drop resistance, IP69K water resistance, and IP6X dust-resistance. A six-layer cushioning system absorbs impact, while rainproof and glove-friendly touch control keeps the screen usable in any environment.

The phone is paired with an 8300mAh battery, the largest currently available in a smartphone in South Africa, with reverse charging for long-term value.

The ultra-bright display, rated up to 6000 nits, ensures readability outdoors while delivering a premium viewing experience.

“Today was about meeting people where they are and showing, in a way you can see and feel, why the HONOR X9d 5G is built for everyday Mzansi. With the HONOR X9d, the already Unbreakable Series is a level up in all the ways that matter to Mzansi,” Zhou said.

The HONOR X9d 5G is available in Sunrise Gold and Midnight Black, selling at R9 999.

Buyers will also receive redeemable gifts worth R4 998, including HONOR Choice Earbuds Clip or HONOR Choice Airfryer valued at R1 999, valid until 8 March 2026.

Additionally, the device comes with the HONOR Care Service Benefit, valued at R2 999, offering 12 months of free accidental damage protection, available until July 31, 2026, for the HONOR X9d.
