Sibusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope WeNkosi has rejected claims linking him to a high-profile Ekurhuleni disciplinary case, describing allegations made by suspended Head of Legal and Risk Services, Advocate Khemraj Behari, as “false, misleading, and defamatory.”

Behari testified at the Madlanga Commission that political interference had derailed proceedings against former chief operations officer Lesiba Mojapelo and claimed that businessman Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza had lobbied for the case to be dropped.

He explained that he personally oversaw the Mojapelo case due to its high stakes, involving over R100 million in Grants-in-Aid funding. According to him, evidence pointed to both DJ Sbu and TK Nciza as beneficiaries of a scheme tied to Mojapelo’s conduct.

“I said to my HOD at the time, the only people we can call now is TK Nciza and Sbu Leope, because they’re the ones who the evidence is pointing to as having benefited from this entire thing,” Behari testified. Rather than allowing the disciplinary process to continue, Behari said he was told the matter had already been settled.

“My HOD pulls me out and says, ‘No, we settled the matter,’” he said. “Those are the things I’m now facing a backlash for.”

In response, DJ Sbu insisted the accusations attempting to implicate him and Nciza are entirely without factual basis. He said the claims are “false, defamatory, and without any factual basis” and categorically denied any involvement in wrongdoing or unethical activity.

“I categorically deny any involvement in wrongdoing, misconduct, or unethical activity of any kind. Throughout my career in broadcasting, entrepreneurship, and public service, I have conducted myself with integrity, transparency, and respect for the law. My work across media, business, and community development has always been guided by principles of accountability and positive social impact.”

DJ Sbu expressed concern that the allegations appear to be an attempt to divert attention from ongoing internal matters by creating false narratives around respected public figures. He firmly reiterated that he has not engaged in illegal activity, has not profited from wrongdoing, has not unlawfully influenced any legal or administrative process, and has not colluded inappropriately with any individual or institution.

He emphasized that any suggestion to the contrary is entirely fabricated and stressed that he reserves all his legal rights and remedies in relation to these defamatory statements, vowing not to hesitate to take action.

“I reserve all my legal rights and remedies in relation to these defamatory statements and will not hesitate to pursue appropriate action should these false claims continue to damage my reputation and personal brand. I remain confident that due process, truth, and transparency will ultimately prevail. I urge the public, media, and stakeholders to exercise caution, verify facts, and avoid amplifying unverified claims that serve only to mislead and harm innocent parties,” he added.

DJ Sbu reaffirmed that his focus remains on serving his audience, building ethical businesses, creating jobs, and contributing meaningfully to society. He stressed that he will fully cooperate with any lawful investigation and welcomes any process that is fair, evidence-based, and rooted in justice.
