The State of the Nation Address (SONA) red carpet is famed for its eclectic mix of extravagant styles, and this year was no exception. Renowned Tsonga disco musician, reality TV star, and former politician, Papa Penny, whose real name is Eric Kulani Giyani Nkovani, once again made a powerful impression with his flamboyant fashion choices.

Arriving at Cape Town City Hall on Thursday, February 12, Papa Penny donned a striking navy and gold suit that encapsulated his signature "messy-but-makes-sense" aesthetic. Those who have followed his style trajectory know he never shies away from bold accessories, and this time, the colourful rings and outstanding shoes he showcased were no less than show-stoppers, solidifying his reputation as a fashion icon on the red carpet.

As attendees showcased their best looks, the colour white also emerged as a significant trend of the night, channelling a “Like a Virgin” energy reminiscent of Madonna's iconic style. Polka dots and colourful pops brought a playful atmosphere to the proceedings, proving that the red carpet can be a space for fun and creativity. Even a fashion statement like Michael Jackson’s legendary white hat seemed less of a fantasy than a possibility on this vibrant evening.
