Bolt South Africa has made a significant stride in the evolving ride-hailing landscape by officially registering under the newly implemented transport regulations.

On 27 February 2026, the National Public Transport Regulator (NPTR) awarded Bolt South Africa a Certificate of Registration, marking the company as the first major ride-hailing platform in South Africa to achieve this milestone.

This registration signifies more than mere compliance; it underscores Bolt's commitment to engaging constructively with government and prioritising safety for both drivers and passengers.

According to Bolt South Africa, the new framework aims to formalise and modernise the e-hailing sector, bringing improved oversight, heightened safety standards, and greater certainty for all stakeholders involved—drivers, riders, and platform operators alike.

Fikile Nzuza-Chunga, Senior Public Policy Manager for Bolt South Africa, expressed her enthusiasm: “We have always welcomed the introduction of clear and progressive regulations for the e-hailing sector.

''From the outset, we have worked closely with regulators and industry stakeholders to ensure compliance and welcome the framework that supports innovation, safety, and sustainable growth. Receiving the Certificate of Registration from the NPTR is an important milestone not only for Bolt, but for the broader e-hailing industry, as it strengthens trust and enhances safety for both driver operators and passengers.”

Bolt has methodically enhanced its safety measures alongside regulatory compliance. The company has organised multiple driver summits nationwide, aimed at educating driver operators on the importance of adhering to the new regulations and understanding their roles within an evolving transport landscape.

These initiatives form part of a broader commitment to improve safety standards, promote responsible operations, and ensure that driver partners are well-informed and equipped to meet regulatory obligations.

Empowering thousands of driver partners across South Africa, Bolt continues to provide flexible earning opportunities while ensuring that riders have access to reliable and safe transport options in cities across the country.

As the transport industry continues to transform, Bolt remains steadfast in its commitment to compliance, collaboration, and the continuous enhancement of safety measures. The company aims to contribute positively to South Africa's broader mobility ecosystem, paving the way for a safer future for all.
