Smal Street, an area once celebrated as one of the inner city’s jewels, has gone to the dogs in recent years.
To restore order and reclaim public spaces in the inner city, the City of Johannesburg has embarked on its High-Impact Service Delivery Programme on 12 May, and will continue the following day.
According to the city, this initiative demonstrates the its commitment to upholding the rule of law and restoring the character of its urban spaces.

Known for attracting a diverse crowd of residents, visitors, and businesses, Smal Street had fallen victim to neglect and lawlessness.
Joburg mayor Dada Morero, accompanied by members of the mayoral committee and senior city officials, led the Smal Street clean-up drive this week.

The city aims to transform this area back into a clean, safe, and functional public space, fostering both economic activity and urban renewal.
