A 25-year-old woman has been arrested in Musina, Limpopo, after she was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during a joint police operation.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, the arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, at about 7 pm. The operation was carried out by members of Musina visible policing and Musina detectives.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the team acted on information that a suspect in the Musina policing area was believed to have an unlicensed firearm. Officers followed up on the tip-off and proceeded to a rental room at Musina Phase 8, where they searched.
“During the operation, the team recovered one black 9mm pistol without a serial number, one magazine, and five rounds of ammunition. The firearm was found hidden inside a rental room at Musina Phase 8,” said Ledwaba.
The 25-year-old woman was arrested on the spot and charged with possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition. She is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon.
Ledwaba said the arrest formed part of ongoing police efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms in the province.
“The police in Limpopo will continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations across the province to ensure that unlicensed firearms are removed from circulation,” he said.
Police investigations are continuing, and officers are probing the origin of the firearm and whether the suspect may be linked to other criminal activities.
