The matter against alleged crime kingpin Katiso “KT” Molefe and his co-accused has been moved to the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

Molefe, 61, appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday alongside his co-accused, Michael Pule Tau, 55, Tiego Floyd Mabisela, 45, and Musa Kekana, where they are facing 35 charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and other serious offences.

The State alleges that Molefe orchestrated the murder of Oupa Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, who was gunned down on November 20, 2022, in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

According to the State, forensic evidence links the high-calibre rifles used in DJ Sumbody’s murder to several other high-profile killings, including Hector Buthelezi (DJ Vintos), Don Tindleni, and Armand Swart.

The matter has been postponed to February 5, 2026.

Earlier, two men believed to be linked to Molefe were arrested outside the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court after police allegedly found them in possession of two semi-automatic AKM rifles and ammunition without valid permits.

SAPS national spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the pair, aged 24 and 36, were acting as bodyguards for an accused person who appeared in court on Wednesday. While the SAPS has not identified the specific accused they were escorting, sources with direct knowledge of the matter told IOL the men form part of Molefe’s security detail.

According to police, officers conducting operations outside the court searched a vehicle transporting the two men and discovered the rifles and ammunition. The vehicle was seized after officers established that the licence disc did not correspond with the registration plates displayed on the car.

Police say investigations are continuing into the origins of the firearms, the status of the vehicle and the precise role of the two suspects at court.

The two arrested men are expected to appear in court once they are formally charged.
