Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded community members and Namakgale SAPS officers for their swift response that led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man charged with murder.
The suspect was arrested following the death of a 26-year-old woman from Nyakelang Section One in Makhushane Village.
According to police, community members alerted officers after the 26-year-old man was allegedly seen assaulting his girlfriend as she walked along the street on Monday night. The following morning, neighbours contacted police after hearing screams from the house from the previous night into the next day.
Upon arrival, police knocked at the house when a man allegedly emerged and fled the scene. Officers, with the assistance of community members, gave chase and apprehended the suspect.
Police then returned to the house, where they found the victim lying on a bed with visible bruises to her face and head injuries.
Emergency medical services were summoned and the woman was declared dead at the scene.
The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage and forms part of an ongoing police investigation.
The arrested man is expected to appear before the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, on a charge of murder.
Investigations continue.
Earlier this month, IOL reported that police in Limpopo arrested a 31-year-old woman, believed to be the girlfriend of the late Isaiah Thomas Maphalle, 42, who was found murdered, with his body wrapped in a maize meal bag, and buried in a shallow grave at the back of his house.
The police said the alleged girlfriend was arrested on December 4, 2025.
At the time, Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the police in Tzaneen made a breakthrough in a horrific murder case that occurred at Morutji Village, Bolobedu South.
“It is alleged that the deceased, Isaiah Thomas Maphalle (42), was found murdered, with his body dismembered, wrapped in a maize meal bag, and buried in a shallow grave at the back of his house.”
