Police in Maake, within Limpopo’s Mopani District, have pledged to "leave no stone unturned" following the fatal shooting of a 67-year-old man at his homestead in Worcester village.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 5 pm.
“The police received information about a male person lying with gunshot wounds at Worcester village. Upon arrival at the crime scene, they found a male person who pointed a male victim lying unconscious under the verandah,” said Ledwaba.
“Further information stated that the complainant arrived home and found the victim lying on the veranda, having gunshot wounds. The complainant proceeded into the house, where his grandmother was watching TV. The grandmother was informed that her husband had been shot.”
Emergency medical services were summoned by the devastated family, but the victim was tragically declared dead at the scene.
Upon arrival, police launched a preliminary investigation and recovered a 9 mm cartridge. Ledwaba noted that the cartridge would form a critical part of the ongoing probe.
“The deceased was identified as Michel Maanaso, known as a traditional healer. The suspects are still unknown at this stage but the investigation continues. The motive behind the fatal shooting is currently unknown,” said Ledwaba.
“Anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Hudson Tshikavhi on 082 319 9742, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or alternatively use My SAPS App.”
Last week, IOL reported that an 80-year-old traditional healer was shot dead at his home in Nwa-Khuwani village outside Giyani after being lured outside by a man posing as a police detective.
The fatal shooting occurred at the sangoma's home at around midnight.
At the time, Ledwaba said officers were alerted to a murder at the village and rushed to the scene, where they found the victim lying on his back near the gate of his home.
