An investigation has been launched after a fire damaged two office containers at Schoemansdal police station in Mpumalanga on Thursday.

An investigation has been launched following a fire incident at Schoemansdal police station in Mpumalanga on Thursday afternoon.

According to provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the blaze broke out at around 12 noon on 19 February 2026. Police members on duty at the station noticed flames in two containers that were being used as office spaces and immediately reported the incident.

Fortunately, all officers were on duty at the time and no injuries were reported.

The fire caused damage to the two office containers and other items inside, while the cause of the blaze remains unknown at this stage.

Firefighters and Emergency Services responded swiftly to the scene and were able to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading further within the facility.

Police said assessments would be conducted to determine the full extent of the damage.

The acting provincial commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, confirmed that an enquiry has been opened and that a team of experts has been appointed to investigate the cause of the incident.

“An enquiry has been opened. We trust that the team will do due diligence and get to the bottom of what really transpired,” said Mkhwanazi.
