In damning allegations before the Madlang Commission on Monday, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, Witness F, told the inquiry that he received threats from senior ANC members and Members of Parliament (MPs) not to testify before the commission.

He further told the inquiry that this included members of the ANC Soshanguve Branch, including their girlfriends,

This was revealed by Commission Chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga when he explained why Nkosi was required to appear in person before the commission.

Madlanga read this from Nkosi’s affidavit.

Nkosi had previously testified in camera for security reasons.

However, Madlanga said the protective arrangement became untenable after suspended deputy police commissioner Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya repeatedly mentioned Nkosi during his testimony, effectively revealing his identity.

Nkosi told the commission that his safety risk increased after his earlier appearance. He claimed he received calls and messages from individuals he described as supporters of unnamed senior ANC figures.

According to Madlanga, Nkosi referred to high-ranking ANC members, an unnamed girlfriend of one of them, an unnamed Member of Parliament, and associates connected to those individuals.

Madlanga said Nkosi did not provide specific details explaining what information he could share about these people or why they would want to stop him from testifying.

The chairperson said he chose not to mention any names, stating that repeating unsubstantiated claims would serve no purpose and would be sensational.

Nkosi also referred to his past relationship with the late Jotham Msibi, saying that through that association he met several senior government officials and parliamentarians.

He did not state that these relationships were directly relevant to the commission’s terms of reference.

Nkosi is accused of acting as a middleman between Sibiya and alleged cartel figures Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and Katiso “KT” Molefe.

Testimony before the commission has alleged that Nkosi collected bribe payments from Molefe. These claims have reportedly been supported by CCTV footage presented during the hearings.

The commission continues its work as evidence and testimony are examined.
