Durban attorney Ravindra Maniklall told IOL the appeal process for his client, Ferrel Govender, has begun.
Govender, 40, was denied bail in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Following a marathon bail application, Magistrate Kevin Broughton ruled that Govender had failed to provide the court with exceptional circumstances as to why he should be released on bail.
Maniklall said there were processes in place for the appeal, adding that the process was already in motion.
The case will be appealed in the Durban High Court
Ferrel and his younger brother Darren, 35, were arrested on January 1, 2025, in connection with the murder of Shailen Singh.
The 32-year-old was gunned down in Umhlanga on December 29, 2024, with the State alleging that the motive for the murder was a love triangle.
Singh had allegedly been having an affair with Ferrel's girlfriend.
Darren was granted R200,000 bail with strict conditions, which include not interfering with witnesses and reporting to a police station daily.
The matter will return to court towards the end of May.
