Attention Seeker

Recently, Gayton McKenzie's past racially insensitive tweets were highlighted. He made offensive comments about Black individuals, according to the writer.

I think the PA leader, Gayton McKenzie, is a populist and an attention seeker. McKenzie also likes drawing attention to himself.

He behaves as if he's the best thing that has ever happened to South Africa. Shame! As the minister of sports, arts and culture, part of his role is to promote social cohesion.

This is important because of South Africa's undesirable past, which includes many years of racial discrimination. Unfortunately, the nation is struggling to cohere. Instead of promoting social cohesion, McKenzie portrays Coloureds as victims.

He also presents himself as the Coloureds leader and Messiah. As a result, he draws his support from this nationality. Therefore, his politics are narrow.

The following question needs to be asked: Is McKenzie the right person to lead the sport, arts and culture department?

The answer is simple: he is not. We don't need a divisive and self-centred minister in this crucial ministry.

Not long ago, McKenzie's past racial tweets were put in the spotlight. He said unpalatable things about blacks. Instead of admitting that he was wrong, he justified his distasteful tweets.

If he were a cabinet minister in another country, he would be toast. President Cyril Ramaphosa has proven to be a wimp in axing wayward ministers. We've seen how Ramaphosa protected corrupt ministers.

He would rather switch their roles than show them the door. That means we are stuck with McKenzie. What have we done to deserve this?
