Severe overnight weather, including damaging gale-force winds, heavy rain, and snow, has disrupted electricity supply to an estimated 300 000 customers across parts of the Eastern Cape.

Eskom confirmed the outages on Tuesday, citing storm-related damage across multiple districts. Affected areas include Mthatha, Qumbu, Tsolo, Elliotdale, Matatiele, Mount Frere, Bizana, Mount Ayliff, Elliot, Komani, Dutywa, Butterworth, and Cofimvaba.

Eskom teams are preparing to access the affected sites, assess the damage, and begin restoration work. The utility has urged the public to remain patient while repairs are carried out under challenging weather conditions.

“All electricity appliances and wires should be treated as live,” Eskom said, warning residents to exercise caution as repairs begin.
