After years of battling censorship under its former name, The Sex Expo, the adult-themed exhibition has undergone a bold transformation, reintroducing itself as LOVE EXPO.
The event, which has positioned itself as an ultimate celebration of sex, love, confidence, and connection, is set to happen on 28–30 November at SunBet Arena Times Square, Pretoria.
Sarah Dean, the spokesperson, tells the Saturday Star the previous name attracted censors, banned ads, blocked social posts, and digital shutdowns, which hindered the exhibition's growth and limited its reach.
Dean says the rebrand signals not just a name change but an evolution in purpose, attitude, and inclusivity.
“After years of being called The Sex Expo and constantly fighting censorship—from banned adverts to social media shutdowns—it became clear that the name was limiting how people saw us. We weren’t being silenced because of what we did, but because of what people assumed we did. The rebrand to Love Expo represents fun, growth, evolution, and freedom — because love is bigger, broader, and more inclusive than sex alone. It’s the one thing that connects us all.”
She also explains that the rebrand encapsulates the essence of fun, freedom, and unforgettable entertainment. The event has transformed from a taboo subject to one of South Africa’s most exciting social experiences.
“Over time, the event has evolved from being seen as “taboo” to being one of South Africa’s most exciting social experiences, a day or night out like no other. Love Expo is vibrant, cheeky, and full of energy: think dazzling performances, incredible shopping, interactive spaces, and a festival-like atmosphere where adults can just let go and enjoy themselves. Addressing the misconception around the event she detailed, “That it’s “just about sex.” It’s not. It’s about humans, our connections, emotions, confidence, curiosity, and the right to celebrate love and pleasure without judgement. Love Expo is classy, creative, and empowering.”
