Multi-talented star Sibusisiwe Jili, affectionately known as AuraSibu, shares her journey as she steps into a new creative chapter, blending her acting prowess with her passion for music.
Jili has captivated audiences on screen with standout performances in hit TV shows such as Umjolo: Day Ones, Uzalo, The Queen, Isibaya, Mina Nawe, Cosmo City Hustle, Generations: The Legacy, Broken Vows, and Masekoties, among others.
She reveals she is taking her artistry to the next level by officially pursuing a career in music.
Jili co-owns Cava Records and released her five-track EP, Umshado, in March.
The star also explains the significance of the title and how it symbolises the union of her two creative passions: acting and music.
“My music is a representation of my life and what I, and those close to me, are going through,” Jili explains.
“I’ve realised I’m not alone. People gravitate towards my sound either because they’re experiencing similar things or they simply enjoy the beats and melodies,” she says.
Reflecting on her musical journey, she adds:
“Music has always been there, vibrating at a level I couldn’t even understand. When I opened myself to it, I knew I had to create something that resonates with my journey. Moving back home also gave my music a boost, it was a good sign. Music has healing frequencies; I listen to meditational vibrations when I sleep, meditate, or practise yoga. It has really seen me through tough times and inspired me to invest my energy into music.”
She reveals her excitement ahead of the projects lined up for her: “We have exciting projects lined up for the year, and travel is on the cards as well. Everything in its own time—I’m taking it all as it comes and feeling extremely grateful,” she shares.
While music is taking a front seat, Jili continues to thrive in acting. Her recent roles also include Nomkhosi Mhlongo, Nkunzi’s sister on Uzalo, and Zanele Cebekhulu in the Netflix special Day Ones, which earned her nominations for Best Actress at the Simon Sabela and NFTA awards.
“I’ve been investing time in myself, my mental wellness, and my spiritual journey. Family is my everything. There’s a big role I can’t disclose yet, but it’s very exciting,” she teases.
