Suspended SAPS Sergeant, Fannie Nkosi is facing more charges after investigators found that he used false claims of authority to remove a police docket and confiscated dagga from a police station in Limpopo.

Nkosi is expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Friday as reported by IOL.

This is after the Madlanga Commission’s Recommendations Investigative Task Team added fresh charges of defeating and obstructing the course of justice.

The latest developments have intensified scrutiny around the 43-year-old officer, whose legal troubles continue to deepen.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the case dates back to November 10, 2022, when a suspect was arrested in possession of dagga, unlicensed firearms and explosives.

Investigators alleged Nkosi later arrived at the Thohoyandou police station claiming he had been sent by SAPS Head Office and collected the original case docket.

“A few months later, he allegedly returned to Thohoyandou, identified himself as a Colonel from Head Office, and removed the confiscated dagga from police custody,” said Mathe.

She further revealed that Nkosi later booked the exhibit into evidence at Head Office, but investigators allegedly discovered that one of the exhibit bags containing dagga had been tampered with.

The revelations have triggered a fresh criminal investigation and raised serious concerns about his conduct within the service.

Last month, the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court denied Nkosi bail, with Magistrate Thandi Theledi ruling that he had failed to prove he would not interfere with witnesses, evade prosecution or jeopardise ongoing investigations.

Evidence from the Madlanga Commission revealed that Nkosi worked directly with alleged criminals and cartel members using SAPS resources.
