After many years I decided to revisit Melville , which was my favourite hangout as a Wits student many moons ago. I was both impressed and disappointed.

I loved the beautiful Ndebele art style of this guest house doorway.

As expected, neglected and faded shop frontages are all over the once trendy , vibrant suburb.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at a rooftop restaurant.

The view from this restaurant/ guesthouse was spectacular.

The highlight of course was to see my wife's art being displayed.

Urban decay was inevitable, yet we never felt unsafe.

Art Deco buildings still stand proud and add a glimpse into the suburbs previously sought after locations for young people.
