In a landmark moment for the South African Funeral Practitioners Association (SAFPA), Dr. Nomfundo Mcoyi-Zondo (Founder and Chairperson of Icebolethu Group) has been elected as the organization’s first female President following a highly contested national elective conference held on June 24 in Sun City, Northwest.

This historic election comes more than 25 years after the formation of SAFPA. Dr. Mcoyi-Zondo, a seasoned industry leader, previously served two successful terms as Chairperson of SAFPA in KwaZulu-Natal. Nomfundo received overwhelming support from all provinces, cementing her national leadership with a clear mandate.
Her campaign was characterized by a strong emphasis on her track record and business success. Her supporters emphasized that her nomination was not based on gender but on her proven leadership, dedication, and transformative work within the industry.
“I am honored to be trusted with the responsibility to lead such a powerful organization. I ascend to this role with a full understanding of the expectations that members have of us as the new leadership. We are committed to serving with honesty and building a SAFPA that will add value to their businesses," said Dr. Mcoyi-Zondo.
