A night out ended in tragedy when a 33-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her boyfriend following a violent altercation that began at a tavern in Nailana village, Polokwane, and continued into the early hours of Sunday, July 6.
Police in Senwabarwana have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the woman’s death and charged him with murder.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the couple had been at a local tavern when a heated argument erupted. The situation quickly turned violent, with the suspect allegedly assaulting the woman in public.
The pair later went to the suspect’s residence, where the violence allegedly continued — this time with the use of sticks. At around 5am, the suspect reportedly contacted the victim’s sister, claiming she was unconscious. The sister alerted emergency services and police.
Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, but the woman was declared dead at the scene.
The suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear in the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, July 8.
The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
