A suspected hijacked truck and two trailers, originally reported stolen in Mpumalanga, were recovered in the early hours of Monday morning during a routine patrol by Gauteng Traffic Police and the Special Tactical Team (STT) of the Gauteng Traffic Wardens.

According to authorities, officers on patrol in Reiger Park spotted a suspicious convoy - a truck pulling two trailers, escorted by a Mercedes-Benz - entering a dark, open veld with its lights off. The behaviour immediately raised concerns, prompting officers to follow and intervene.

When law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicles, the occupants of the Mercedes-Benz abandoned the car and fled on foot into the veld. The driver of the truck was apprehended at the scene.

A subsequent inspection of the truck and trailers revealed that they had been hijacked in Mpumalanga. The vehicle and trailers have since been recovered, and investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects.

Authorities have urged logistics companies and freight operators to remain vigilant, as hijackings involving heavy-duty vehicles continue to be a serious concern in interprovincial transport corridors.
